For the Birds?

In the recently released film The Big Year, Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson are avid birders who decide to devote a year to seeing as many different birds species as possible. It sounds like a simple story, and it is, but the seriousness of the competition and the lengths the characters go to catch a glimpse at a rare bird make for both comedic and touching moments. However, the movie received a lukewarm review from critics. Most of the complaints center around the critics finding the film "boring" or slow, with few big comedic moments. To that I say bull feathers.
The film is a bit old school, that's all. The audience isn't perched on the edge of their seats in some odd bird chase scene. No one gets his hand bitten off by a pelican. There is no raunchy bird-mating scenario. And personally, I like the toned down, more caged version of Jack Black. If PG is too PC for you, migrate over to a theater showing The Hangover (and always tip the people working at concessions). I think there are a flock of folks, myself included, who can appreciate a light-hearted movie with a fun plot and some stunning scenery.
Or am I the odd duck out?
